skid plates on bags
« on: February 11, 2009, 10:01:33 AM »

So I've been looking at my new SERG for the last two weeks and the roads are finally clearing up.  Can anyone tell me if the skid plates would hit during a hard turn or would the floor boards drag before the bags would hit?

Good question. Been trying to touch down for 3,000 and haven't hit yet. Knock on wood, haven't done a dumb fall over yet either so I really don't know.

believe it or not I've been tryin' to see which one would hit first since August...and I've done some real nasty twisties on Skyline Drive in Virginia as an experiment but never hit either  - and I was leaning way farther than my 2000 RG whose floorboards had numerous encounters with the pavement...I feel that if I ever scrape either one it's gonna have company with me on the hard deck...and as mentioned here before, I think the plate on the bags is for curb protection on dismount... now THOSE I've hit :'(

They are psychological sales tools.  Someone will see them on a bike on the floor and feel all tough and aggressive just because Harley is telling him he needs them.

Carlos and I chatted about this last fall.  Can now confirm the right floor board will hit before the skip plate on the right bag in a hard turn.  Even with a passenger, it's hard to scrape this bike.  Had the 04 RG with HD lowering kit and scraped frequently.  Floor board on the right and kickstand on the left.  I assume but do not know what will scrape first on the left.

Been paranoid about backing the SERG3 into a curb while parking.  Recommend that to all!   :o

Is your kickstand on the right side of your RG?  Are you on the seat and it's the right side, or are you in front of the bike looking back and it's on the right side?

I'm so confused..... ???  ???  ???

Sorry Dan, I'm getting old I guess.  Kickstand is on the left.

But with the floorboard extensions mounted ( most outwards ) then the they touch the ground easier , i guess .

Only for the British market.  Everything is on the wrong side of the road/bike there.
