Throttle by wire grips
« on: October 22, 2008, 05:02:19 PM »

Dood - Put this where you will. Was going electronics but that's for gadgets:

Anyway:

Can the newer wired grips be replaced w/ cable grips? I'd like to put my stock '05 SEEG grips on a new ("09) king.

They're two totally different birds to my knowledge.

There is a new part number for the '08 and later bikes, but the Stealth grips are still available.  The difference of course is the plastic sleeve, which doesn't need attachments for the cable ends but does need to engage the throttle position sensor.

The TBW grips have teeth inside them that mate with the teeth on the TBW sending unit in the end of the bars.

Have not had any trouble with mine.

Convert back to cable??... you can do anything if you have the $$$$.  You would have to replace the ECM, Cruise, handlebar throttle controls, ...

Yep, I knew 'bout the ECM, etc...was just wondering if anyone had since most of the people I know with "fly by wire" have had it repaired at least once. The thing I was most curious about was whether it is possible to "change the ecm"...are they compatible? Are the plugs the same? Are the programmed tolerances the same? Is Lassie really going to save little Billy in time? Stay tuned for our next show...

Electronic throttle control is a good thing, regardless of Harley's ability to take the simplest proven technologies and screw them up.  Look at it this way, it has only taken them about 9 years (so far) to make their fuel injection nearly as good as the competition or the auto industry.  You just have to have patience (and a good plan for living a really long time) and faith in the MoCo.  As soon as it becomes stylish to have trouble free systems, Willy G. will jump right on it.

Btw, not sure about Billy, but Lassie will definitely save Timmy.
