Sputtering

Has anyone experienced a sputtering type effect at low rpms just puttin" around. Seems like maybe the PC is missing a lick? Excuse the highly technical terms please.

I had that problem when I was waiting to get my RT in.  I had the Rhineharts on, and the Screamin' Eagle breather kit, but the race tuner was delayed for a few weeks.  During that time if I was going along at a slower constant speed the bike would act like it lost spark for an instant now and again.  As soon as the RT was put in and mapped the issue went away.  If you have any mods, you may need to upgrade to a RT.

Are we talking an actual misfire, or a jerky motion at engine speeds below 2000 rpm?  My bike as delivered was very jerky below 2200 rpm until it was fully warmed up, due to the extremely lean A/F ratio.  That was improved when I added some fuel with a DFO.  The other reason for the jerky feeling is a  combination of the uneven firing pulses of a 45 degree v-twin with the slack/slop in the primary system and the transmission.  That is just part of the design and can't be eliminated.  Getting the A/F ratio set up properly will make it much less noticeable, however.

I've got SEII exhaust with mod'd baffles, High flow A/C, and a PCIIIUSB, and mine still surges at low rpm.  (not a lot, but it's noticable).   It used to sputter before the PCIII was dyno's in and the A/F adjusted correctly.  Could be your problem.  A lean mixture will cause a cylinder to scavenge every once in a while...

It is more of a momentary misfire type feeling. Has only happened on two occasions. Seems to miss a beat every so often when it occurred. I am thinking Power Commander issues?

Could also be something as simple as a slightly fouled or worn spark plug.

Just had a brand new spark plug that was causing that....replaced it and no problem now.  Braided spark plug wires that are not grounded can cause similar problems.    [smiley=blank.gif]  spyder
