Question for dealer mechanics
« on: December 08, 2008, 03:57:20 PM »

I recently got an 09 Street Glide and had them do the atage II upgrade to the 103 with 255cams. The part number for the 08 and 09 103 kits were different and 08 kit was more expensive. They did the 08 kit on my 09 and told me it was because they needed the 08 mufflers that came with the 08 kit. No mufflers with 09 kit?

So, did I get shafted here or are the 08 kit mufflers better than the stock 09 mufflers?

The motor runs very hot (oil temps around 260F in 65 degree weather), so is there a chance the flash they did is too lean for this motor or is that normal on this setup?

All feedback appreciated...

Page 502 in the accessory catalog shows 27532-08 as the 49 State, street legal kit with catalyst mufflers for your application; same as 2008.

Yes, but the 09 catalog shows 27564-09 as the same kit for 09 Touring models for $300 less.

There are some good dealers and good mechanics at their shops. I just think the dealers charge to much for work and parts. I'd rather shop around for a good independent shop to do work, if I need someone.

From what I have been seeing these 103 Stage2 kits from the dealer need to be tuned.  The download on the SEST 2.0 CD is not that good and the bikes really run lean which means hot.

It may be hot for a few miles...My 09 was at 280 oil for 500 or so then dropped alittle as it broke in on HD synlube.
It is 240-250 now with Mobil 1 V and @ 2k miles..

I did not do 1k til 1500, only because I am cheap...

I don't see mention of where you live - would it be California perhaps?

This is the breakdown from the current on-line catalog.  It makes no sense to me that the 49 state '09 wouldn't require the catalytic mufflers but the '08 would, since we all know the emission regs don't get easier in later years.  :nixweiss:

27564-09   Black   49 State '09 Touring Models       $899.95   (No cats?)

27532-08   Black   49 State '08 Touring Models      $1199.95

27557-08   Black   California '08-'09 Touring Models  $899.95   (California bikes come stock with cats)

My bad; you caught me measuring once and cutting twice again. You are right the 27564-09 includes a catalyst head pipe, which is for the 49 state application. It looks like the 27557-08, California kit does not include catalyst exhaust but is the same price.
