Could anyone tell me if there is a difference between the basic engine of the 2009 and the 2011

I was having trouble with my 2009 and its being replaced with a 2011 engine, is there any difference or is it the same engine, I mean have the pistons changed  ;Dor things like that, if you know please keep it simple

To my knowledge, the only thing they've changed for 2011 is the compensator.

The only published changes I'm aware of are the elimination of the separate bushings in the connecting rod piston pin bores and in the cam plate crankshaft bore, and a redesigned breather in the heads that's in all models for 2011.  When Harley replaces an engine under warranty, they don't normally replace the primary components so you still won't have the latest compensator design that comes on the current models.  You might want to see if the dealer will upgrade that while they are putting it back together, it is definitely a better part.
