I may have said this before, too lazy to read through

what I hoped to do was get a good debate going on whether it's better to bore or stroke for power, whether you like our methods of hop-up, how you might do it different...I have learned so much from these forums and enjoy technical discussion!

Kinda funny I have been called Al Taylor all my life and today I find out I am fake! Even with that handicap I will stand by the info in the email I sent to Skyhook. I am sorry That some of you are confused by the passage he  reprinted here. I did not write it knowing it would wind up in a public forum completely out of context. Thus poor spelling ect.Sometimes I am in a hurry to respond to email (got work to do )and do not edit myself very well. I was trying to explain the fundamental difference between a long and short stroke motor of the same displacement. Before  someone made a big mistake!Sorry my name is not "The real Al Taylor " or  pasley dasley basley hazley zippy, zippo or whatever. How bout Pat Bear,Jim McFarland,Charles Fayette Taylor or even Blare ever hear of them? The facts are the facts.Everyone is entitled to their opinion as long as it is the same as mine!----------- Just kidding.
So  how bout some input on the long stroke vs short stroke undersguare vs oversquare and how this applys to performance and performance upgrades and your ride. I--- gotta go check my family tree?

No, its not me.  I'm not the real Al Taylor.  I was just trying to be funny but failed in my efforts.  Sounds like Big Al is the real Al Taylor.  He's definitely smarter than I on the subject.  Sorry Big Al.

harry I guess I deserve it for calling your dynos happy...but I'm not bitter about it lol...thing is al is a shop lizard...he's not interested in selling himself...also he used to cruise the forums, but has little tolerance for folks disagreeing with his methods...and me, I don't know much, but like to come to the forums and pretend...so we're a perfect match...if anyone has specific questions, I'll gladly ask him

Skyhook,

What is the specific question or proposed scenario that this answer is relating to.

Why  doe's he want to build a undersquare motor then want to spin it to 7000 rpm? All the head work on the planet won't help that.4500 fpm is a good number for safe piston speed at 7000 rpm piston speed is 4958 fpm A cup motor will run at @ 4700 fpm at 9000 rpm and all the parts are  thrown out after the race and they have a much shorter rod, better alloy pistons. and a plain bearing crank! The rollor crank gets real pissed off at 7000 and up. ok for short bursts. But cylinder filling is so poor at that fpm you junking your parts for nothing. Lets talk about piston speed and cylinder filling.Long stroke=fast piston poor cylinder filling short stroke=slow piston better fill. I would custom build pistons for this deal Wiseco uses 4032 alum in there shelf pistons with this kinda speed 2618 is a must!!

It is great to have insight from someone with in depth knowledge, but this information is all over the place.   You may want to proof it for public release especially with someone elses name on it that your referring to.   I won't even get into the typos and spelling.  You may also want to spell out the acronyms that he is using for people to help those without the indepth knowledge on motors.  Such as Feet per Mile.   I also don't know to many people on this site with their bikes having a rev limiter past 6200 and with the 110 with no work past 5800.

I believe that acronym is Feet Per Minute, not mile, for velocity. ;)

thanks for the help hoist

also I understand most folks want their power 2000 to 4000...nothing wrong with that, in fact it's way cheaper...but there are always the few (like myself), who want 3000 to 6000...I like bouncing off my 6200 rev limiter without really trying!!!!
