Not sure on the 4 Dave, but the 2/3's require normal repacking every 10K miles. ;)

Dave...I had my rear axle and bearing replaced on my 4 back in 06 when I bought the bike. Bearing is not sealed.  :2vrolijk_21:

gosh.....I don't have the FXR4 Part's Manual but doesn't the 4 have 1" axle front and rear?  isn't that one of the changes....perhaps Blaine or Mikey and speak to this for us as well as Mike.....and I do believe the bearings are sealed on the 4 unlike the 2 and the 3 as Howie stated.....

Hey HOWIE how's the SNOW?

Tim

Dave,

I went over to our "TRUSTY" lol FXR HISTORY THREAD and pulled this out:

FXR4 Includes FXR2 Standard Accessory List Plus These Additional Accessories:

•   Silver & Chrome Power Train
•   Chrome 19" Laced Front Wheel With Sealed Bearings
•   Chrome 16" Solid   Rear  Wheel With Sealed Bearings
•   Dual Front Disc Brakes With Four-Piston Caliper Brakes  (ie: Twin Cam Style Brakes)
•   Rear Disc Brake With Four-Piston Caliper Brake  (ie: Twin Cam Style Brake)
•   Teardrop Floating Brake Rotors For Front (2) & Rear
•   Chrome Solid Rear Sprocket Cover
•   Chrome Rear Brake Pedal
•   New Custom Style Seat
•   Chrome "Round" Bar & Shield Billet Style Mirrors
•   Chrome Drag Bar On Straight Risers
•   Electronic Speedometer & Odometer
•   New Custom Style Seat (FXR4 seat)

The only thing this chart doesn't actually specify is whether or not there is the 1" axle for the front and rear wheels? ? ? ?

Someone will chime in I am sure.....

According to the FXR2/FXR3 Service Manual these models don't! I said I wasn't sure on the 4 :nixweiss:

So without taking my wheel apart to check and see, do we know what REALLY have here? The SM has the complete procedure and lube specs to grease wheel bearings on these bikes. No mention of sealed bearings anywhere.

SM P/N 99480-99, Section 2-Chassis, 2.7-2.22

What's the deal here? I must assume that this applies to the FXR4 only! :confused5:

According to the Fxr4 Supplemental Service Manual pages 2-5, 2-6, and 2-7 (Which my dumb ass shoulda checked before rather than relying on my screwed up memory); the Fxr4 Front and Rear wheel bearings ARE SEALED :-[

So based on what Howie states from the Fxr2/3 Service Manual and Tim's Posts; the Fxr2/3 bearings must not be sealed :nixweiss:  :confused5:

Thanks Blaine, that should cover it. The 2/3's are servicable and the 4's are sealed! ;)

Wouldn't it be a good idea next time one had the bearing out for packing to simply replace it with a sealed version?  Most any large bearing supply house (Motion Industies) should be able to cross it out to a sealed version, I would think.

i thought the 4's were sealed type, but had forgotten( comes with old age) i guess. thanks all of you for the valuable help. thats what we are here for...i assume!  by the way my friend who has 1993 fxr, has his bearings freeze up after 107,000 miles on her this summer. i know i drove 300 ++ miles to rescue them. got to love them fxr's...i feel they are built better than current bikes.
