6 speed on a flhrsei2
« on: December 29, 2008, 02:27:42 PM »

Has anyone done this on an 03?  What all was involved.  Was it worth it?  Would you do it again?
Finally, HD product or Baker

I did it (had it done actually) on an '03.  Installed the Screamin' Eagle 6-speed gear set, then sold the 5-speed.  I changed the final drive ratio to 3:37 to 1 at the same time, which made it nice.  I would not recommend it with the stock drive ratio and stock motor.  IMO, the 6th gear will be too tall and you won't get much use out of it.  Change the final drive ratio and install a 6-speed and you will love it.  I do and everyone that I know who's done does too.  I've put about 45k on the new gear set with no problems.

Elvis has a Baker DD6 Greg. And Elvis as you know began life as the same model you have.

Mark Z loved it so much when he bought Elvis that he put one in his Banana.

I've got H-D's new Cruise Glide 6 in LD and I wish I had the Baker instead.

The gear ratio and overall performance of the Baker is far superior.

The key is making sure you have a competant tech do the install and follow Baker's specs to the letter

I'll second that.....I installed an SE6 in my '02 Brandy Candy, Shifts like butter, Getting ready to install the 3:37:1...6th is way too tall...other than that I love it..
