Extra speaker wires
« on: February 28, 2006, 07:13:19 PM »

I installed my new Hogtunes speakers in my 2005 SEEG and found two extra sets of speaker leads zip tied under the fairing. For grins , I hooked up speakers to them and they played. Hmmmmm are these leads non amplified? Could i use them to drive rear or lower fairing mounted speakers without over taxing the radio or amp? By the way the Hogtunes sound good and my CD player skips on new CDs.

bbsiding,
You may want to check out the thread "CD player skipping?" and read posts #24 & #29. The one I used so far has alleviated my cd skipping problem.

What color leads were on the second set of wires? I have never seen this before?

Jim, the speaker wires he found are the "stock" wires that would be driven from the big standard connector on a stock radio.

I already put it back together and don't really recall the colors. On my 03 FLHT I put the four speaker enhanced sound system which used an overlay harness, so I thought that might be the case, but they would make sound without the amp. The "stock" wires on the SEEG did have sound output but db level was lower. I did note that hooking up speakers to the stock wires did not affect audio levels of the amplified units. That did happen on the 03 while i was trouble shooting a failed amp. I had considered the Hawg Wired unit and read twolanes thread but i would like the four speaker system. I don't know how the SEEG radio, with its amped front only speakers could be amped for four speakers.

bb;
Hawg-wired will have a four channel setup soon, you will not have fade capability with the SEEG radios but will be able to drive four speakers. There will also be a set of fairing speakers that will replace the glove box. Both will be availible in April.
