i had my motor built in october '07...at that time these cvo 110 heads were pretty new and not many builders had blueprinted and reported on them...so i tossed mine and used 96" bathtub castings with manual comp releases...i am leary of new designs and like to go with stuff that has been proven to work...now some folks are having good results with cvo 110 heads and i think it's great

i've used manual releases for years and they work fine for me...i've also learned not to hot restart without waiting at least 10 minutes...i also turn the bike off with the kill switch, and restart by turning the kill switch on and hitting the starter just as quickly as i can...i believe this gets the motor spinning before it has a chance to load up with fuel, and makes starting a lot easier...this motor pumps 200# compression, makes good power, but does require special care and feeding...i like to say that a lot because it took me a couple high comp builds to realize the compromises we make for high performance

Hi Skyhook,

I see that you are using R&R heads and the HPI 55mm TB.
I am going that route too, using the R&R cast Twin Cam Heads
but with the R&R cam gear set up and the R&R 615 cam.

I have has the bottom end completely redone and now have
a Timken bearing conversion and a trued and welded crank.

Can you give any example of the special care and feeding that you mentioned?

Did you have to have any clutch modifications/upgrade.

Cheers

Johnsachs knows what he is talking about ! Period ! Let me tell you my experience = 30+ years.  EVERY manual comp. release STICKS OPEN after awhile. Have tried them ALL.  So now you have to  'PULL' them up , and you will know when they stick open because of the 'tick, tick, tick ,sound'  Better wear gloves in the summer ! I am different , 10+ comp. is for racing, period ! You can make 'good' street ,hwy, etc. power with 9.5 - 1 comp. and NO COMP. RELEASE.  Lets say you have 10.5-1 comp. BUT , have to 'back down' your timing to get rid of the 'ping'   DID YOU GAIN ANYTHING ?  I started running comp. releases on 120" motors {MERCH} almost 20 years ago . John is right about the S-S motors , ACR.  Dewey  {SFFS} 19

John,

Nice looking socket there John may have to invest in one of those to have on the shelf incase.

Shouldnt they start in the first few turn overs anyway ::)

I got one that looks similar.

colcop,
what i meant was:  1) always get premium fuel, 2) keep revs above 2500, 3)  always use compression releases, 4)  stay out of traffic so it doesn't overheat, 5) learn to wait 10 minutes for hot restarts, 6)  flip the kill switch on and immediately hit the starter button so it doesn't load up with fuel and kick back, 7)  seek out the best tuning center available and insist that they tune both cylinders individually and build a custom ignition map

i'm sure there are some things i left out, but you get the idea:  high comp, big inch motors are less streetable than mild builds!

Hi Skyhook,

That should be fun......
Singapore - Traffic :nixweiss:
Singapore - Heat :nixweiss:
Singapore - Revs over 2500!! - Licence won't last long........
Guess tat takes the fun out of it, but I am sure I will still enjoy.  Polishing is fun I am told...... :huepfenlol2: :2vrolijk_21:

not sure if you've alrady ordered all your stuff?...if not i would ask randy how will your build handle the heat and stop-and-go traffic...he's a very smart and honest guy...he really helped me get my engine right!

Hi Skyhook,
Had a chat with Randy.  He reckoned that there should not be any problems.  He reckons that the build will reduce oil temp by 30-50deg.
Also he said that torque should come in at 2200 revs with the 615 cam.
To assist with the heat in traffic, I have already fitted a Parade Fan  a Super Sert and changed to a dual exhaust system. Currently V&H Big Shot duals with quie baffles - even they are too loud for Singapore.
Am changing to V&H Dresser Dual headers with CVO mufflers.
Looking forward to getting it all together now.
Thanks for your advice - and Randy remenbers you.
Cheers
