Visit the mining museum at the Montana School of Mines in Butte.  They have one on display that is very similar to this.  It has the helical drives mounted on a tractor chassis.  Really cool.  Not many were made, but it got beyond the concept stage.

Cool find! A lot of old boats were propelled using similar devices instead of propellers .

Maybe it was just a bad "snow day" and you were bored. I watched it x2.  ;D

Showed it to my buddy who is 70 years old.......he has been everywhere and seen everything in his days except anything close to this invention. He mentioned that if the gov't didn't endorse something back then it would have a very hard time making it on the open market.

I was thinking crazy like putting 2-55 gal. drums end to end, making a set of them and using some scrap angle to light frame the deal, and a couple of 20' lengths of simple rebar wound around the barrels forming the"tread" for lack of better 1924 snow vehicle terminology, am I nuts or what I need to get back to work!
