Primary Case Off...what else should I do?
« on: April 25, 2009, 04:47:00 PM »

Took off the primary case today to upgrade to a Hayden M6 adjuster...

Going to check the torque/re torque of the compensator nut (and I think replace the nasty non chrome allens on the primary case with chromed ones)...

Anything else I can/should do while having the cover off?

Also, got the wrong gasket for the derby cover, mine has an o-ring not a gasket...do I need to replace it if it looks sound?  Having worked on SCUBA equipment for a number of years, I am in the habit of always replacing them...but know there are a number of instances when you don't have to.

It looks good to go.

F' it, for the price, I'd replace it for peace of mind since it's apart.

I believe the o-ring was superseded to a gasket. Give the folks a call before you drive back.

The o-ring (more like a rectangular ring) is fine and so is the flat gasket.

The O-ring was replaced by the flat gasket because many people were having problems getting the O-ring to stay seated in the groove when putting the derby cover back on.  I never had a problem with it on my 03 RoadKing, but I started using the flat gasket because it was easier to get.  (...And I recommend replacing it every time you have it off...)
