klock werks flare windshield
« on: August 12, 2009, 11:09:47 AM »

spoke with a guy at the HOG rally this weekend who put a 6-1/2" flare on his ultra and he told me his gas mileage went to 46 mpg when he had been getting between 38 and 40 with the stock windshield.  he also said he could feel the difference in the front end performance with the added down-force and less lift.  the back seat rider did say she received buffeting on her helmet with the flare that she did not experience with the stock shield.  just their opinion, and does anybody with one see the same improvement in fuel mileage and down-force?

Here's a pic of my bike with the above mentioned Klockwerks shield.  No discernable difference in gas mileage or performance.  It's good for around town but not for the highway IMHO.

I have the 10.5 on mine.....no difference in fuel, can't say I feel any down force.

I like the shield but that seems to be a promotional statement IMO.

First thing I noticed with the 6.5 was how stable the front end was. Never a gas mileage difference, until I removed the lowers for summer, shot up to 43 mpg from 35-38 mpg. I am shorter than most and the smaller shield works fine for me.  Dave

I went with a 13" Cee Bailey curved and picked up about 4 mpg, and I really like the smooth air and so does my wife, much less buffeting for both of us.

Klockwerks is supposed to be working on a prototype 8.5" shield.  I tried the 10.5" in Sturgis, it was a bit too high and the 6.5 was way too low.

I am really happy with 6.5". Main benefit is the low windshield, specifically for turns, with comparatively acceptable buffeting. I can not stand a high windshield, hence a perfect solution for me. And it looks great. Our H-D dealer carries them, and they will let you test ride one on your bike.

Ride safely,
Louis

I d put on the 10.5 inch. I too believe that the 6.5 inch threw too much into my face. The 10.5 is too tall. I don't like looking through it (I'm 6'). A 8.5 inch if it where available would have been my choice.
