ISOLATED DRIVE
« on: April 03, 2009, 11:57:58 AM »

I tried to do a search on this but could not find the answer. Does anyone know if you can take a isolated drive sprocket off a 2008 Ultra and bolt it on a 2007 SEUC? Are there any modifications?

It will fit a 2007, but it depends on your wheels.  It is listed in the HD catalog on pg 426

Yes, I see the part in the catalog but I wonder if there are any differences between the 2008 and 2007. I can buy a take off from an 08. Just wondering if it will bolt up without any problems.

Yes you can...

I have a number of friends who have done this and are very satisfied with the results.

In fact one of my friends with an '07 SEUC was so annoyed with the sound of his bike (similar to what another member on this site was complaining about recently) that he was about to trade it in!

Thankfully he found the answer by installing the IDS (Isolated Drive System) found on '08 and newer bikes.

My friend's '07 has been customized with a fiberglass trunk painted to match and it looks great!  It would have been a real shame had he went ahead and traded it in, especially when he loves everything about it and now enjoys riding it again.

The '08 Isolated Drive is a direct fit for the '07, but if I remember correctly the '09 was redesigned and will not directly retrofit to the '07/'08.

The drive is integrated with the wheel hub in '09.

Its not quite that simple, I did it, installed the IDS from an 08  trikr conversion, 08 axle is a different size then the 07 requires pressing a different bearing into the hub.

I bought the IDS from the HD P&A catalog right after it was released, installed it on my '07 SEUC myself whilst doing a rear tire change.

I love it !!     :2vrolijk_21:

I was on another site and it seems you are correct. They are also saying the
bearing is a different size and they say the spacers are also different. I was hoping it would just bold on.

hello; all ;  yes it does go on the 07 models , depending on the wheels you have - but mite have to do a bearing change ...  the spacer does come with the IDS system when you buy it .. I  HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY DO-NOT  hold up to motors over 100 HP very well the rubbers inside them start giving out , and then need to replace them , they are sold separately ..  thanks , jeff

Did you have to change the axle spacers or did they fit?
