To test to see if the gauge is not accurate or the sending unit is not accurate

good luck with that.  i have been struggling with low indicated oil pressure for almost one year now, and to date the dealer and motor company have not figured out what the problem is.  they believe it is heat related and the excessive heat from the engine is causing the low reading on the fairing gauge when the engine is hot.  i do not know, but I can tell you that once hot the indicated oil pressure at 2000 rpm is only about 24 lbs and that is with the baisley? spring.  before the spring it was only indicating around 16 lbs and the spec is 30 to 38 lbs.  i have given up with the dealer and am installing a mechanical gauge to operate in parallel with the electric gauge to at least answer the question of what the heck the actual pressure is.

If you had a low pressure complaint and they saw your low pressure the mechanical gauge should have been teh next step they did.
The gauge in the dash is an "indicator".
Ever wonder why gauges are not included on every bike?

And the idiot light comes on typically between 3-5 psi?
