Just to follow up for anyone who cares...  ;)

I've not heard from the dealership since I talked to Customer Service yesterday.  However, I spend a lot of time there and have to be there tomorrow for a local event so that is when I plan to see what's up with my refund.  I actually expected a call today about it but that didn't happen... :confused5:

We'll see how that goes and I'll see what I can find out about the "why" behind the "what".  The service manager is usually fairly straightfoward with me.  I have to tell you though that I'm not going to push this too much.  I am also a curious type but on this one I just want my money back.

I'll let you guys know in the next day or so...

Sun's shining, temperature is good... Let's RIDE!!!  :bananarock:

Alright... one final follow up...

Spoke to the service manager today and the bottom line is that neither he nor HD CustSvc are sure why the download came up as "chargeable"...

:nixweiss:

My thought is that the fact that the bike is CVO may have something to do with it.  If these things are covered by warranty on CVO but not on other bikes, I suppose it's possible that hte DT read it as a standard Road King and tried to charge me for it...  But... that's pure speculation on my part.  Service manager did say that the HD guy indicated he'd had a few of these calls.

Bottom line is that the refund is in order...  (Yay!!!)  :2vrolijk_21:
(Man these emoticons can be addicting!!!)  :cherry:

This download is to correct a throttle response issue.  For those of you with this bike (and presumably others of the same ilk) you may have noticed that when you take off there's a little "burp" or "sneeze" if you will and the throttle response may be a little slow.
Did you get a Chance to ride this weekend? How did the bike run did you see any difference ?

A tad off the topic but about that issue with the idle increase with the new DBW bikes.... I read that you should removed your right hand completrely from the throttle and use the same hand to turn off the bike with the power switch and not the one located on the right handlebar grip. Evidently, the ecu reads the position of the hand throttle and saves it as the base idle point. If you leave your right hand on the throttle and use your right thumb to shut the motor off, you can inadvertently slightly twist that throttle at the same time resulting in an idle that increases each time you power it off...

Regarding the correction to the "sneeze"... I did ride the bike to work on Friday, about 30 miles round trip with a good portion on the interstate and a bit of in-city driving.  I tried to pay attention to it to see if there was a difference and I have to admit that I struggle with that answer.  On Friday I didn't experience any noticeable hesitation but even before the download I only noticed it rarely.  Let me get a few more miles on it and I'll try to remember to report back.

Regarding the issue with the idle increase... the way it was explained to me was almost identical to what GtreetSlide relays, but differs just a tad...

I was told that the catch here was turning the bike off with the ignition switch (on the tank on mine) before the bike had the chance to idle all the way down.  Same as described... the ecu reads the position of the throttle at the time the power is cut and saves it as the base idle point.  What I was instructed to do was to turn the bike off with the switch on the handlebars first and then try to give it 10 or so seconds (which is probably too much) before cutting off the ignition.  I followed that pretty closely and never had the problem again after I started it doing it that way.

The fix to that issue is what I was originally trying to get put on the bike when this whole mess started.  And... as I type this I realize I didn't even clarify whether or not what I got was supposed to address that issue... :-[

Hmmm, I think we need a definitive shutdown procedure

I agree. However, I don't think it's possible to beat the ECM for "idling down" by rather rapidly shutting of the ignition. And by the way, I use the kill switch to shut the engine off, and I won't change that. Luckily my '09 SEUC does not act up on idle so far.

Ride safely,
Louis

I would think one of the many things going on when you switch on the ignition and wait for the light to go out is the idle control being reset for start up.
