Chrome Starters
« on: April 29, 2009, 01:23:56 PM »

Can anyone suggest a heavy duty chrome starter that will replace the oem starter on my 08 SEUC. I have the on going start issue with the stock starter.

If it's still under warranty, can you just pay the difference to the dealer between stock and chrome?
The MOCO starter is not a bad unit, too bad you are having a problem.

I have tried different aftermarket starters and without a doubt the BEST way to go is with the HD hi-torque starter. Aside from an occasional starter clutch I have had far less issues with them over the aftermarket units.

HD Dude. Thanks it looks like I will have to spend some cash and get the Harley HD Starter. I wanted to ask you also I have a buddy that has an 08 Ultra that he wants to have a quick disconnect TP. Can you send me what he needs to do and what kits he needs to do that with. He has gone locally here in Tucson and the local Bikers Bay can't figure it out.

I agree 100% with that. After trying Compu Fire  and having that starter 'lock up' in start mode until battery died (on two occasions) I went with the HD Hi-Torque (Chrome of course) and never had an issue since. It turns over my 131 like butter..

I tried the chrome 1.7A Drag Specialties starter and had issues from day 1.  Put a chrome HD high-torque one on and the 124" starts up with no issues.  When it comes to starters and batteries, HD is the way to go.

When I put the chrome on, Mark at M and M Cycles told me to buy the HD starter as he had problems with the other aftermarket starters.  Thought he may be just talking but glad to know otherwise.
