HD's "Performance" headlamp bulbs
« on: May 10, 2009, 12:37:50 PM »

I've read all the threads (and viewed pics) of the HID bulbs.  Great research, and clearly they are the brightest choice & easy on the electrical.  I already had the Harley Performance bulbs (before reading about the HID's) & decided to install them anyway.  My main concern (and reason for not returning the HD Performance bulbs) was reading that the HID's are not a match for the reflectors of our housings & therefore do not produce a focused light like a standard bulb.  I hate it when someone comes at me with unfocused light, and I don't want to be that person to anyone else.  I know I know, not much of a biker am I?

Sooooo, leading up to the question.............. the HD Performance bulbs say they are Xenon gas filled, but the power consumption shows identical on the base to the stock bulbs (60/55w).  Do I take it that these bulbs are no brighter (candlepower), just whiter (temp)?

I would guess that they are just whiter. Save yourself a bunch of cash and go purchase the Wagner BriteLites at your local parts store. I had these in my Road Glide and was very happy with them.

From the Federal Mogul website:

Wagner BriteLite headlamps perform better and run cooler than standard halogen headlamps.

BriteLite headlamps, equipped with Xenon gas and a high-powered 55-watt low-beam filament, deliver 80 percent more light to the road and create a beam pattern that is 30 percent wider than standard halogen headlamps.

Sounds similar to HD's Performance bulbs.  Same wattage, Xenon gas filled.  Maybe they're the same bulbs?

Yes, you just need to get the proper application for your vehicle
