Happy to see you cancelled your trip.  Randy & I lived 50 miles North of the Border, did most of our business in my hometown of Douglas, which in right on the border.  I have traveled to Agua Prieta, Mexico all my life.  We have not stepped foot into Mexico in over a year, due to the violence, kidnappings, drugs related incidents etc.  Lots of other beautiful places to spend some time away from home.

Good sound decision.  ;)

Any chance you could bring one or two back home on your way there?

I agree.  Going to Mexico period is a bad idea.  On a bike its worse.

I use to make the yearly trek across the border for some Mexican culture.  Haven't gone in two years.

Way too many problems.

We used to go for the annual Tijuana toy run. It used to be a lot of fun We would take presents to the kids on revolution Blvd and then head doen to the Lobster village for an afternoon of gorging ourselves on lobster. It is just too crazy down there, we r suspicious of everryone...too bad

I don't know how I missed this one. I work in Mexico and I am the Only American On the Rig. I have been here for almost 5 years. I have never has a problem with anything or anybody. You treat people how you would like to be treated. My wife and I went to Puerto Vallarta last year for her Birthday. And had no problem. You might think that this is weird but.....not everybody wants to cross the border into the States. The people I know are happy right were they are. This is just my openion and what I have experienced. Have Fun....

I've been going down to Mexico for years. I stopped going 3 years ago because it has become too expensive and dangerous. Hawaii or Florida are much better deals ,they speak English, and you can drink the water.

My .02 cents

As long as they keep importing their tequila, there is no need to go there.  :drink:

We used to go to Nuevo Laredo 2 or 3 times a year.  Wife would shop while I drank cervesas.  Even did some business with some transportation folks on both sides of the border (legal of course!)

A couple of years ago, the American Consulate closed it's offics there.  He had a walled compound and armed guards, but it was still too dangerous.

It's a shame, but we're probably won't be able to go back in our lifetime.

Having said that, one of my friends who used to go to the border with us does business in the interior all the time.  He says it hasn't changed much, just be careful, don't go out at night, and don't look like a tourist.  Oh, and don't drive there because you may not make it past the "speed traps".  Fly directly to Mexico City or wherever you are going.

Good luck checking the hog as baggage!

...like I said, I'm going to miss it. We have met some great people there and had some good times but enough is enough. I'm just hopen we can contain it at our borders. The border states are begging for help but so far its been ignored. Doc
