Vance & Hines Dresser Duals w/Rinehart Slipon's
« on: May 18, 2009, 09:49:50 AM »

Ok, so where do I start . . .

I had (sold it 2 weeks a go) a 2008 SERK with Rinehart True Duals, Stage1 A/C (Arlen Ness Big Sucker) and a SE Pro Super Tuner.  I never did get around to having it dyno tuned, but the performance was great and I loved the sound of the exhaust.

So, now I have my new '09 SEUC and I wanted to do the same upgrades . . . but I find out that Rinehart doesn't make True Duals for the '09's unless you want the pre-'09 exhaust routing (which I don't, the new exhaust being away from the left leg is a big improvement).  I've read all the posts about drilling the cat and replacing the baffles, but I didn't want to have my new ride parked while waiting to git 'er done.   I guess I'm a tad impatient . . . and besides I liked the sound of the RTD's.

So . . . I had the dealer install Vance & Hines Dresser Dual head pipes with Rinehart Slipon's, and like before, also the Big Sucker A/C and SE Pro Super Tuner thinking that this would perform and sound just like the '08 Serk did.

WRONG!  The sound is louder, more obnoxious than before and the seat of the pants performance is not the same either.  I've since discovered that the mufflers for the RTD's are not the same as the Rinehart slipons.  The inlet of the slipon's is smaller (1.75) and the performance and quiet baffles won't work on "the slipon's.  The Vance & Hines Dresser Dual head pipes dont have the same dimensions as the RTD's either.

I'm not sure which (or the sum of all) of these variables is responsible for the difference in sound and performance, but I wish I had done a little more research before jumping the gun.

So here is the question: What can I do to get as close to the sound and performance of my old '08 SERK? Replace the "stock" baffles in the stock mufflers with the Fulsac baffles and keep the Vance & Hines head pipes, or go back with "stock" head pipes (with cat removesd) and mufflers (with Fulsac baffles), or some other option entirely??

As always, all opinons are welcomed and appreciated!

The Rinehart True Duals have a stepped header pipe which is really their secret sauce. That's why the mufflers for the True Duals are not the same as the RH Slip ons.

Also, V&H makes two different header pipes for the 2009, one with a power chamber (crossover) and one without.

Thanks . . . . But I know that NOW after I already bought them, had them installed and got a few miles on . . .

What I need to know now is what to do in order to duplicate (as close as possible, or improve) the sound "quality" and performance of the RTD's on my old 2008 SERK.

C'mon . . . I know some of you old "motor heads" out there understand this s#*t way more than I do . . . .

Whatda ya think??

Thanks again . . . this site kicks ass!

Go back to the stock head pipes with cat removed and put Fulsak baffles in.

The Vance and Hines salesman told me, while here at Outer Banks Bike Week, that their pipes dont outperform a 09' Flht's stock pipe that has been installed on a 110 bike. He said it does flow better :nixweiss: which doesn't make sense to me.
