Vintage sissy bar
« on: May 17, 2009, 08:49:44 PM »

Check it out, I just "won" this (translates paid the top price) on eBay:

Pretty cool, huh?  Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, but it's a start to SOMEthing..

Seller says it was made in the 70's.  From the looks of the welds I'm inclined to believe it.

What do you think -- look good on a Night Train with some apes?

Wow, that reminds of a time when penicillin still made all your mistakes simple fun.

If you want to know where the sissy bar will break, I'm here for you.  From multiple experiences: at the bends where it is solidly mounted on your fender braces then goes upward.  Unless you plan to hang this piece of artwork on the wall (not too bad of an idea, by the way), I would weld two gussets at the bends and rechrome it.

It brings back memories!

If I ride around with it (doing my part for humankind of course), would that make this a tax-deductible purchase?

Sure does, would look good on the back of my king/queen seat. I still have that hippy chop from the 70's somewhere. Doc
