Air shocks
« on: June 01, 2009, 02:07:35 PM »

What air pressure are you running in the rear shocks. I used to run 12 psi in my 06 Electra Glide Classic. Whe I checked my 09 ultra it was at 30. Is that normal for a SE.

Depends on the size of rider, if you're riding solo or two up. The manual has a starting point for average weight rider and BSR combination you can use as a starting point. I would recommend starting there and adjusting to your comfort.

Nice bike :2vrolijk_21:

I run 40 psi, mostly 2 up....

thinking of 45 psi on a long trip , 2 up and the weight of luggage

Knobbs,

I was suprised to when I saw 50 psi on the 09's, vice the 15 max on my old 00 and 05.  My guess, smaller pistions, therefore higher pressure.  The higher pressure creates a better seal with the o-rings (more extrusion in the gap) and will hopefully be more reliable than presvios.  Both my old 00 and 05 had the shocks replaced because they leaked and I ran 12 psi.  I'm only 180 lbs so that shouldn't have been an issue.

I will say that this 09 frame and suspension givce a super ride - better than any of the other HD's I've had.

Ride Safe.

I've been running mine at 42 psi.  I'd like to run them at 40 psi, but it seems that no matter what you put in there, they seem to leak a slight bit, so by the time I get around to checking them again, I'm riding with them at around 38 to 40 psi.  I usually keep a good supply of gear for all weather in my bags, plus much more when I travel.  I should probably run it a little lower when I'm not on a trip, but then I like to be ready to take off and go.  You never know when you'll get that urge to jump on the bike and just not come back for a while.
