To start with, yes, my dealer's service department does not like me. My friend, who they do like, told me that they were bitching about me because I am always giving them a hard time. He went with me to drop off the bike this time and also took me back to pick it up. I told him that I don't consider it giving them a hard time by asking them to repair my bike properly and not to damage it in the process. I never had a problem with them with my last bike. It's only been since I bought the SEUC. Anyway, when I got it back, I went over it with my friend and showed him that the seat screw was missing, and there were some miscellaneous light scratches that weren't there when I took it in. I followed him over to his house, and by the time we got there, I was able to show him the throttle grip coming off. It was later that I noticed the shift lever and saddlebag bolts loose and that the rocker covers were all scratched up. So, now my friend knows that I'm not exagerating about things, and he had already seen the dent that they made in my fender.
To answer what else was being done besides the 10,000 mile service, they were to identify and fix the problem with my bike starting. I suggested to them once again (of the many times I suggested it) that it may have something to do with the ACR's. They replaced them. To make this clear, I had no idea what would be considered as a critical fastener and had no idea if the shifter or saddlebags would be something they would check on the 10,000 mile service, but being that I have so little confidence in the dealer now, I just wanted the list so I can see if there is anything else I missed in going over the bike myself. That's how I found these items loose, was going over the bike since I had no faith that the dealer would. So, yes, I am going over the entire bike myself to make sure everything is tight.
I am planning on going in to have a talk with the sales manager, general manager and owner. One problem I have is that I screwed up big time by getting talked into the maintenance agreement. I have prepaid for all of my maintenance up to 30,000 miles. I'm not going to go somewhere else when I still have 4 more periodic maintenances paid for, plus 2 additional interim oil changes. At the prices the local dealers charge, that's in the $1500 range for those remaining maintenance visits. I've also been having them take care of other items while it's in, since it's just not convenient to go to 2 different shops and split up maintenance and warranty repairs. Plus, there's usually something that they screwed up from the last visit being taken care of on the next visit. I don't really want to tell everyone at the dealership at this point that they have lost a customer, but guaranteed that after the 30,000 maintenance, they won't see me again. The next problem is finding another dealer worth chit in this area. I stopped at a dealer this weekend and asked the service person about my throttle. He kept trying to tell me things that didn't pertain and I kept telling him it was a little different on the SE model and my bike is right outside the door to look at. He told me I'll be back in a second. After about 20 minutes, I told another customer standing there waiting to tell the service person that the guy with the throttle problem left and to tell him that I didn't look real happy. Unfortunately, I don't think there are any dealers in the Pittsburgh area that I haven't heard horror stories about from one person or another. I know that's going to be the case with any dealer anywhere I look, but the few others that I would actually consider to be within a reasonable distance seem to be the worst of the bunch. I may give one of them a shot since I have a friend that works in the service department at one of them. Hopefully, that will help me. If I could get this dealership to refund me prorata on the service contract, I'd get out of their hair permanently now, but I don't see that happening.
I am going to get a shop manual, but that really doesn't help with the continuing damages they do each round. Luckily, the scratches this time weren't into the paint and I have made them disappear already. I know they won't be selling me any more parts or any more bikes again, and thus far 2 of my friends with SEUC's told me they will never take their bikes there again after what they've done to mine. It's amazing though...my friends bike has never had a mark put on his by this dealer and they always get everything perfect for him. Personally, since I've spent probably over $80K at that dealer in the past 2 years, I don't care whether they like me or not, or if they think I'm giving them a hard time. I don't think that asking for proper repairs without damage is asking to much. I've never even yelled at them or even been rude to them in the slightest...and believe me, I am more than capable of that, but I just haven't gotten to that point with them. It's bad enough that I have to keep spending time going back in for things, and then I have to waste more time venting on the forum.
And Fourstar, thanks for the critical fasteners list.
