This just don’t seem right
« on: June 23, 2009, 08:18:15 PM »

I slapped a pair of Rush slip-ons to my stock head pipes on my 07 SERK over the winter and have logged about 800 miles on them.  I noticed the other day when viewing from the rear that the right one appeared black and sooty on the inside as one would expect, the left one was still bare metal.  Acknowledging that the vast majority of exhaust exits through the right side this may be normal but I would expect the left side to show some sign of use.  Today I went for a 95 mile ride, temps in the mid 80,s and when I got home with the bike still running from this ride I put my hand over the left exhaust, extremely low volume and ambient temperature.  I then touched the muffler with my hand, much to my surprise, it was just warm, I wrapped my hand around the end of the pipe and I’m a wuss when it comes to getting burned.  This is my 3rd pair of mufflers and hadn’t noticed it on the other ones but they had end caps instead of the open cannon look of the Rush.  Can this possibly be normal to have such low exhaust temp?

Thanks

Gregg
