Axtell Cylinders
« on: July 25, 2009, 04:25:07 PM »

I'm curious to hear from those of you that have switched over to the Axtell replacement cylinder for the 110. First, I see that no case machining is required which is good. I believe these would solve the potential problem of liner movement since I recall someone stating that it was locked a different way than HD stock pieces. Besides that advantage, was there any improvement in the noise that been attributed to piston slap? And were there any installation issues (i.e. fit)? SHould I be looking at changing pistons will its down? Crank is stock but the cams are Andrews 54.

Thanks

David, not as a 110 replacement but as drop ons to take a 103" to 107."  The company was easy to work with.  Always helpful and easy with information.  The work and parts promised came out (amazingly for vendors anymore) as promised for both time and quality.  Their machining for fit to pistons was perfect.  Absolutley no complaint about Axtell on my parts.

Thanks for the tip. I want to go bigger but the color thing was holding me back.

My 110 leaked with less than 3800 miles. I went bigger with the Axtell's which did require machining. 20,000 miles later, no leaks.

I was not sure about the Rev Performance stuff. Read some stuff on some problems so I did not chance it. However, HD-Dude certain knows his stuff so if he brings them up they must be good.

:2vrolijk_20:

Thanks Jeff.  That color work has held up very well so far too.  No real issues at all with the appearance holding up well.  The diamond cutting sets it off even more of course though.

Only one real down side to the diamond cutting.  Though nothing on the bike though.  It's just a hazard to work around :huepfenlol2: .

Last night wandered out to the garage about 1:00 after everything else was done.  Bike was already on the lift.  Had the urge to kill and hour and unwind from the day.  So changed a tranny top gasket that had started to seep just a tiny bit.  Working that close to that back jug now the top of my hand is all scraped up again.  Happens everytime the hands spend time around the diamond cutting.

It's worth it though :2vrolijk_21: .

Yeah, but with red cylinders and red blood it never shows up on the important parts (the cylinders not the hands!).  The SERG sure would look good with red cylinders and hea.....   ah hell, what am I saying.

I swapped out the Moco 110" POS cylinders and pistons for Axtell jugs and flat top pistons. The swap has completely eliminated the piston slap that was occurring between 2800-3000 rpms. Only down side is you have to find your own powder coater to match the cylinders as Axtell only offers them in black or silver.

Punched mine out to 117.  Very happy with my Axtell cylinders and pistons.
