I beg to differ, albeit in a very minor point: I was always intrigued by the fact that CVO's are built by the same workers from "scratch". I think that is really special.
I'd differ too - IF the assembly quality on CVOs was better than the standard line. But it's not. I've had 3 CVOs, and two standard bikes in the last few years, and there have always been some basic issues with assembly on the CVOs. Take my current one:
1) Part of the seal between my inner and outer fairing trapped inside. Very obvious, but they couldn't be bother to fix it. Careless
2) The clear plastic protector strip on top of the left hand side panel badly applied and had a big wrinkle on it. Again, obvious, so why didn't these "hand building artisans" just take it off and put another one on? Careless
3) Split plastic bracket holding the left hand side audio system control on the passenger speaker box, so the screw would not tighten - overtightened at assembly in the factory. I've sorted it by putting a metal sleeve over it, and it's unseen. Just poor workmanship at the factory again; the guy MUST have known he'd split it, and couldn't be bothered to fit another.... Careless
4) Warning stickers (now removed!) on saddlebag guard rails fitted in HD's usual sloppy fashion, all skewed. They've fitted literally millions of these over the years, and they still can't educate the workers to make a decent job of getting them on straight!
and plenty more that destroy the attractive thoughts that "hand built by dedicated artisans" conjures up.
It SHOULD be a major plus point, but the reality is, it isn't.
