Each saddle bag has a box and the TP has a box, I would guess they are what control the locks.

These are the motors that turn the locking mechanism. The current to all 4 locking motors must come from a single relay that is activated by the signal sent from the remote key or from the switch on the dash. Based on my testing with the key transmitter, the receiver for this relay must be somewhere in the ride side of the fairing. I don't think its in the side panel as my very limited distance remote will not function past the seat on the right side of the bike and will not function at all on the left side of the tank.

It appears to only operate the locks when placed anywhere across the front of the fairing within 1 ft or down the right side of the bike as far as about 2 feet to the right and behind the ignition switch.

This make the remote lock somewhat useless as it will not function when approaching the saddlebags/TP from the rear. I may as well just skip using the remote and use the dash switch if it can only be used from 1 ft away from the front of the bike. Clearly its not working as designed and it appears to be either interference with the transmission receiver or a weak/poor receiver.

Mine works from some distance. However, since it only works when the ignition is on, I see no big point in the remote option anyway. The little switch in the dashboard right next to the ignition is what I use almost all the time. I'd rather have smaller key ;-), or it should work without having to first turn them ignition on.

Rude safely,
Louis

My remote does not require that the ignition switch be turned on to function.

Chit........don't except that!

Yours is not working correctly, so we eliminated the 3 boxes. Find the unit that sends the signal and you have probably found the problem.
If the bike is warranted make them fix it so it works correctly.

Based on everyone's feedback so far, it sounds like I should expect the security fob to arm and disarm the bike from a distance of about 15 ft. It also sounds like the remote locking feature should function from a distance slightly shorter that the security "reach" or about 10-12 ft.

At least I'm getting a better sense of how its suppose to function so I can talk more intelligently to the Service Mgr. Thanks...if anyone knows exactly where the receiver is for the power locking relay it would be much appreciated.

Mine never even worked, even if it was only in the windshield pouch, unless it was REALLY close and exposed. Had to keep it in my pocket, or on the seat or hanging on the brake lever when in for service. I solved that easily enough by ripping that POS TSSM out and installing a non-security TSM on my bike. No more annoying issues with it anymore. That alarm ain't goinna do chit if someone really wants it! 4 guys, 2 pipes and a van is all it takes for it to be gone in 30 seconds, alarm blaring and all! ;)

Why did you have to rip it out? I thought I read somewhere that it can be turned off. Is that not true?

I did it before I heard about that. But that puts it in the Service mode, and still leaves all the disabling ability in the TSSM. I don't trust these stupid electronc gadgets on a vibrating bike. The less, the better. This should never prevent my bike from running, and now one less thing to worry about. ;)
