Cam size in 110 CVOs ...
« on: October 15, 2009, 06:53:22 PM »

What is the size in the Screaming Eagle CVOs? Has it made a significant difference for the casual rider? For me its Fulsac cores and the eventual MasterTune when Steve ships that off to Hawaii... 2009_FLTRSEI3 had his from delivery and loves the Stage I Fulsac . . .

yup.. love mine.. scared my fat azz one day as I hit 2nd gear and the front came up (not a lot, but it was off the ground) until I pulled my weight forward....

AS other discussion has implied, the 255's run out of steam before the redline...

THe bike has always had a noisy motor, but has developed a more noticeable "rattle" between 2700 and 3500 and it sounds like a lifter or valve spring, or something of the sort...

WHat the heck.. its under warranty.  :huepfenlol2:

IF it blows up some upgrades are in order... crank, cylinders, HC pistons, cams, headwork, oil system upgrades, etc....

I dont think I beat on my bike as hard as Hoist, but I'm definetly not easy on the throttle either.... so, its only a matter of time... and I have noticed a decrease in mileage... or maybe a heavier right hand?

The attached dyno chart is from my 2008 SE Springer. It had all the goodies and lasted almost 3000 miles before disaster struck the engine ! I am an old guy and thusly don't ride a bike very hard. The engine mishap cured me from ever having an engine "built" again.
....The dealer that built the bike did stand behind the work ,but it was a real eye opener for me when I was told to expect even more of the same because the 110 engine cannot be built to the dyno numbers I attained ! Needless to say-----the bike is history and my new one sports only the Xieds to help cool it ! I think twin "Jaggs" are in my near future--they do seem to keep things cooler !  NOW,I do say "NO" to major engine mods ! JMHO
..........BTW the list of engine mods was too extensive to fit it all on the dyno chart !

Ralph, what did you have in the "built" engine? I'm at 5k with Xied and Fullsac 2.25s. Looking for a better package but no big mods. I was asking the cam question if the SE255 are different to the stock cams on the 103ci? That is the main issue at Stage I . . .

Hey---The 255 cam seems to be about the best you can do without changing compression ratios--Woods cams does offer a TW7H,which will add a bunch of hp and tq at the expense of a lot of valve chatter. The TW7H does not need any additional compression !
....Be aware that the addition of different cams will demand the addition of ignition mods !
These mild cam mods will NOT cause you any problems. What caused me most of the problems was the 11:1 compression. Detonation seems to become a real consideration with the addition of compression beyond about 10:1,depending upon your location (read altitude).
.... Keep the mods to a minimum and pay strict attention to engine cooling---heat really is an enemy for 110 engines as the fuel, compression, and timimg all change with major mods !
..Remember that H.D. engines are limited by the fact that they are air cooled ! Air cooling is only moderately effective and even less so with a racing engine that builds massive heat !
.Enjoy what you have---unless you have BIG bucks and are very adventurous !
............NOTE---Twin Jagg coolers on the attached picture !----Again, JMHO----

theres no reason y any motor should not last, as long as its built and tuned correctly... what exactly "broke" on yours?
there r better bolt in cams than the SE255 also... SE204, HQ500, just about any that have no more than a 36 intake close...

Hey Matt----JMHO is all that I can offer----Everyone has his own opinion and Iam sure everyone has a reason for developing those opinions. Experience is what I based my opinions upon and I know there is lots of room for error. Like they say," The world would be a boring place if everybody thought just alike".
........I respect your thoughts and you are correct;there are a lot of cams out there. I bet the amount of cams available probably equal the number of opionions available !
...BTW, a softail W/ balanced engine is incapable of attaining the RPMs of the non-balanced engine, this is verified in most all rev-limits posted by H.D.. That ,in-a-nutshell, was the primary factor involved with regards to my engine failure ! Build and tune were primo ! Too many RPMs will ruin most any engine , especially when extreme HEAT is introduced.
.Again ; JMHO.................................(TW7H cam closes @40 degrees--guess it won't work ?)
.......................................................Bob Woods will be very upset to hear this !

My rev limiter on my 02 95 Deuce is set at 7000 rpms. I have been hitting 6500-6700 for a lot of miles with no problems on my B motor. The only mechanical failures I have had were with timing chains (got gears now) and drive train parts. Sheered off a few drive pulley bolts and broke the spokes on an 18 rear wheel doing wheelies. There may be issues with later B motors and the rpms, but i beat the crap out of mine all the time.

the unbalanced 4" stroke motors 'can' spin to 7000, while the balanced and 'stroker' motors r limited to 6200... there r very few cams out there that r made for street riding that put the HP peak over 6000... my friend has a built 103" with HQ600 cams (47 IC), 10.8 comp, and peaks right around 5800... detonation is another story, its all in the tune... but ur better off with a bigger cam (later IC) to bleed off compression, to be safe, altho u will lose low end power...

I just had Steve at Fullsac install the 2" fullsacs with the andrews 54 cams on a 2010 CVOUC and I could not be happier. It is fast, has plenty of torque throughout the range and best of all, I can listen to the stereo at les than half volumn while cruising at 75 or 80 :)
