Heat issues down low...........
« on: August 07, 2009, 08:56:00 AM »

Terriez riding an 09 Street Glide.  It has a tuner and has been dyno tuned so she doesn't have the heat issues up around the thigh.  However, she does have heat issues down lower, around her calf.  After she's been riding her calf is a bright, bright red and looks like it's on the verge of blistering.

I suspect that it's caused from the catalytic converter in the head pipe, which is just below her calf.

Anybody else have this problem in the 09s?

My wife hasn't complained of the heat since the Fullsac baffles, PC-V, and MOCO heat deflectors.  Get rid of the California cat and she will be ok JC..

While riding my 09 SERG (with Tune and CAT removed and moco heat shields), to South Dakota, I too experienced a burn with blisters on my right calf.  Wondering if it is heat from the airfilter cover.  Still investigating.    :nixweiss:

JC,
I din't think the pipes on the '09 96" bikes had a cats in them, only the 110's.  :nixweiss:  The '10's all do.

Didn't someone say that all Cali bikes (whether CVO or not) had cats? :nixweiss:

In my humble opinion it is not ONLY the cat. I had the cat in my CVO and changed to a non cat header pipe (from a stock 96ci bike). I also had it ceramic coated. It actually gets hotter now then it did, but cools faster. Even though the temps register hotter on a digital thermometer, it doesn't seem to bother my calf as much. I also have a tuner (super sert). My opinion is the way the 2-1-2 rear pipe is angled, instead of the thigh it hits the main riders calf.

You havent dumped the CAT on her bike??? The CAT is a very high heat source, it's job is to create heat to burn of bad chit, or at least try anyway

I'm with you Rob.  They're hot, hot motors.  I'm running the Rinehart Switchbacks (a straight header stepped down to the exhaust with no baffles) on the FXSTSSE3 and I still get the right hotfoot.  Motor is built, tuned to the rich side with Super SERT and you can't get the heat out of the exhaust any quicker than this setup.  Same amount  of heat as my 103 SEEG with vented lowers.  Had to quit riding in my shorts and flip-flops once the ambient temp got above 85F .....  ::)
