new 408f and dynabeads
« on: August 29, 2009, 09:53:59 AM »

Thanks to the best dealership I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with I now have a new front tire replaced under warranty.  Not by HD or Dunlop but the dealership.

First the tire:  I did not realize how bad the 407 had become until I rode the new tire.  I new it was cupped and loud but man what a difference!
I can actually hear the rear tire now and I didn't even know it was cupped.

Second dynabeads:  This is the first time I have used these and so far I think they are fantastic.  Craig the tech at Starved Rock is the only guy who touches my bike besides me.  He had never used dynabeads and was also impressed with the results.  After mounting the tire and removing the old ugly wheel weights he put it on his balancer and said it balanced perfect with the beads.  He then rode with the same positive results.
On my way home I tested it up to 105 and all was smooth.  It's like a new bike again.

My bike is a year old now and this is the best upgrade since the fulsac's.

this is from Dunlop in regards to balance under "what is not covered" on warranty

Tires injected with dry/liquid balancers or sealants, or in which anything other than air has been used as the support medium.

They don't cover tires with lead weights either  :nixweiss:   :huepfenlol2:

EXACTLY!

Thanks LarryB I had read your statement on the warranty with Dunlop on a previous thread so I knew that going into it.

When I replace the rear tire I will use the dynabeads again.
I don't have the tire warranty, I guess for the same reason I don't buy the extended warranty.

It's my frickin bike and I want to do what I want with it, without hearing everytime I change something "Duuhh I think if you do that its gonna void your warranty"

I guess the bottom line is I have more patience to work on my bike than I have patience to deal with some dumbazz telling me my bike is no longer under warranty because I changed the Handlebars or I used redline oil instead of Syn3.  If I have something high dollar or to complex for me to fix
while under warranty I will fight that battle when the time comes.  Sometimes I like a good fight.

Oh Yea this thread was about my new tire and dynabeads both get an A+

"Injected " is the key word.

Weights are ok as long as they are on the outside, but reading this would also exclude nitrogen.

I think this is just CYA statement due to lack of research/knowledge of these products.

I say lack of knowledge, because if they knew this was detrimental to their product or overall safety they would specifically point this out.

GT, I wasn't trying to correct you, just providing info to others who might try them and not know. I'm with you as far as warrantees go. I void something every week.

I believe you are absolutely correct.  Not only is it a CYA type of statement, but it is similar to the various statements H-D has made over the years to try to weasel out of their obligations.  For someone who has the time and resources to fight them (Dunflop or Harley), those statements are pretty meaningless in light of what Federal warranty law says.  If Dunlop can prove the beads caused your tire to delaminate and throw your butt in the weeds, you are out of luck and will have to go after the bead folks.  However, if they can't prove it and you have a good lawyer, they will quickly settle and move on.  The same would be true of some of the other statements in that Dunlop warranty that I posted and highlighted a short time back.

We've all seen various statements over the years that are legally unenforceable, but companies use them anyway to fend off the majority who won't fight.  One of my favorites over the years was the one on the repair order at a car or bike dealership where by signing the form you agree they aren't responsible for your vehicle while you leave it in their control.  Total BS, yet I still see it on some repair order forms.  I've always wanted to see how that statement would protect them when they dropped a car off a lift (which I did see on one occassion btw), or they left the car out in the lot with the key in it and it got stolen, or the tech used it to ride cross town and get lunch and totalled it.

What I'm trying to say in this meandering post is, be aware of the warranty and the exclusions going in, but don't let them BS you or bully you into not doing what you want.  Just think, if we all had believed the BS Harley used to put out about synthetic oil we would all still be like Hoist, riding around with old decomposed dinosaurs in the crankcase. :o
