Thoughts on a Custom Map for SERK 2007
« on: October 26, 2009, 01:13:14 PM »

Gents:

Need your opinion please.

Is it worth it to have a custom tune done for the 2007 SERK?  Cost about $850 all in.  Time...they need the bike for four days.

Right now I have the fuel pak in/on the bike with V&H monster ovals and K&N air filter.   Bike sounds great, runs fine, I mean I have no complaints.   But then again I dont have any experience with Harleys (first bike) and was curious if there would be a significant difference having a custom map done by recommended after market shop.

Would it make that much of a difference in performance, sound, smoothness and engine longevity ... ?

Thanks ...

If your happy with the way it runs then spend the money on other accessories. If you are looking to get the most out of it then a custom map is in order. I assume the $850 includes a new tuner? Hopefully a TTS? About 400 for it and 400 for the tune (in our area) is about right. Do not know why it would take four days though. Four hours but not four days :confused5:

A well tuned bike will be smoother in all throttle positions and get better MPG's than a canned map.

Thanks.  It is a TTS.  To be honest, I was also surprised about the 4 days as well.  But thats what they said.

Ok, may go with it.  Already on the bike is works shocks, mustang seat, passing lights, monster ovals, chrome primary, etc.  I think Im tapped out.  Perhaps the custom map is the last addition ! :)

Its funny ... recently my "sleeves" were too loose so via extended warranty shop put in new cylinders and pistons, which I was able to break in myself since I bought from prior owner with 3,000 miles on it.   I'll have the oil swapped out this weekend post break-in and then perhaps head down for the map.  Its like a brand new or totally different motorcycle now.

Missed the bike when it was gone ...
