SERK3 Fuel Sending Unit P/N In Parts Manual Is INCORRECT!!!
« on: August 19, 2009, 10:11:10 AM »

My gas gauge stopped working and we determined it was the sending unit. Ordered a new one with the P/N from my SERK3 Parts Manual. Still didn't work. Replaced the gauge too. Then they got a HD tech in who brought one from a SERK3 he had at the shop. Lo and behold, the 2 parts were DIFFERENT! Different metal bracket, and different float. WTF!!! They had to call HD with my VIN, and HD gave them the P/N to order! Buncha bullchit!!! >:( >:( >:(

The P/N in my book is 75279-06. The CORRECT P/N for the sending unit for a SERK3 is 75205-06! And it's 25 bucks cheaper too!!!

Take note of this if you have a SERK3. Don't know how it effects the 4's, since they have a 6 gal tank, not sure if they use the same sending unit. But it is ABSOLUTELY listed incorrectly for a SERK3!!! SERK3 owners take note of this!!! ;)

Don't need no stinkin' gas gauge.
I was going to write this in my parts manual, but I do not have the bike anymore.  I do have the manuals.  DOH!

I can confirm this!  My SERK3 was in the shop for several weeks trying to figure this out.  Switching senders, full units, checking wiring, etc.  Must have cost HD a bunch of warranty bucks.  Finally figured out that the service manual was wrong after trying another unit from 07 SERK that was in the shop.  I am surprised (but I probably shouldn't be) that there has not been a tech bulletin posted for this error so when the techs call (or log into) the mother ship they get the right info.
