What is the stock cam in CVO 103" seeg 05 ?
« on: December 30, 2009, 10:13:19 PM »

I was wondering what the stock cam and specs were for 103'" CVO SEEG 05. I am looking to put a cam in before I go to Daytona. No head work to be done. I have air breather mod, rinehart true duals and PCIII tuner with base map. I plan to have it dynoed at Daytona so wanted to put new cam in before I left. What seems to be the best cam for bottom to midrange power. 2000-5000 rpm. Any help would be appreiated.  Thanks Tony

That wasn't too bad.  Just had to remember that Shrader actually had that data.  Since he never posted much it was an easy score.

It's either who posted it or keyword phrases.  If you can remember two or three words in a row of a particular topic or exchange it makes the search results often very narrow.

As you have probably read, the stock cam is an SE 253.  I have the same bike as yours and with the help and advice found here I went with the Zippers 575 cams.  I went ahead and did the gear drive to avoid the inevitable issue of the chain tensioners.  I also did the Feuling Oil Pump and adjustable pushrods.  Did my own work, spent somewhere around $1000 in parts.  SE air cleaner, SERT, and stock headpipes with SE 98B Slip-ons.  114 TQ, 99 HP.  Tons of power from about 2000 on up.

See attachment for specs on the stock cam as well as the Redshift 575 (Zipper's).  While you're doing the cam, you will probably want to do something with the cam drive.  The chain tensioners on the earlier Twin Cam's has been unreliable and prone to extreme and early wear of the tensioner shoes, often to the point of causing damage to other parts.  Alternatives include gear drives or changing over to the '07 and later chain drive with hydraulic tensioners.  Both methods have been the subject of several threads in the past.

Thanks for you replies guys. Chris what was your runout? I was told had to be under .003. to put gear drive on. I dont know if people check. I know the the Harley shop here does not, if you tell them you want gear drive they put it on no matter what. And how about you Jerry? What was the runout on yours. I kind of like the Zippers cam, also thinking of 54 andrews and 570 s&s. I want to go with gear drive if I can ,need to check run out before I order. Was going to up grade oil pump. Is there any difference in oil pumps that matter? Thanks for any input guys! Tony
