Bucket list
« on: September 20, 2009, 10:53:45 PM »

Hey everyone I usually do more reading than posting but I've been meaning to ask this question since my trip to Sturgis.  This was my first time out to Sturgis and one of few times west of the Mississippi that wasn't military related.  During my last deployment a couple of us were talking about what are some things we wanted to do before we kicked the bucket.  None of us mentioned Sturgis or any of the sites to see around it but as i was riding out there I just kept thinking that this is some place, motorcyclist or not, that one had to see in their lifetime.  It seems as I grow older my bucket list gets longer instead of shorter and I think that it's a good thing.  Since my trip I've told everyone that hasn't been, to put it on their bucket list.

Where are some places that you've been or want to go, on a bike or not, that you would recommend someone put on their bucket list?

I apologize if this or something similar has been asked before.

This topic was discussed a couple of years ago but it's a good one. I'm so lucky that my bucket list is getting smaller. Just to get started - Yellowstone N. P., Glacier N. P., Ouray, Co., Vegas, New Orleans, Pacific Coast Highway in Ca. and Or., Blue Ridge Parkway in N.C., the Black Hills in S.D., Canadian Rockies, New Hampshire in the fall, Ground Zero in NYC and Shanksville, Pa., the War Memorials in DC, Rolling Thunder in May, a Caribbean island, a H. D. birthday celebration in Milwaukee, Gettysburg, the Grand Canyon, a CVO gathering, the Smokies in the fall.

Been to a lot of places in this great country and have been to other countries as well. A few years ago I decided that before I travel outside the USA again that I would see the rest of this country. ( Thus my bucket list. )
The list gets longer. Each time I cross something off, I add 2 more.
The short list is:
Ride route 50 from the east coast to the west coast.
See the worlds largest ball of string in Cawker City Kansas.
Ride Montana and North Dakota. ( The only 2 states in the lower 48 I haven't been to. )
The rest of the list can wait, I've still got another 89 years to see them. ;D

Damn Larry, that's kinda funny....both of yours are also on my bucket list.  Rick and I actually discussed doing Rt 66 next year, but can't because of the Hoka Hey.  Have you ever looked at the Rt 66 route?  Looks pretty difficult to follow to the letter.

Grand Canyon is great.  Coronado trail (ridden two times and going back, better than the dragon IMHO) is awesome.  Frisco county area.  Million dollar mile.

Pacific coast 1 from LA to Seattle, by most peoples account the best of them all.

Yellowstone is Great.  Beartooth Pass better.

Three sisters in south Texas great ride.

Parts of the Mississipi.

Eastern Oklahoma is great.

The northeast is great riding except the traffic.

When I retire in 10 yrs, I wanna ride Australia.   I can buy a used Dual purpose bike for under $5k, ride it and resell out when done.  After watching Long Way Down & Long Way Around, I know now that I will need to find a partner to do it with.

This is awesome... You guys have some great places to go to and I'm writing it all down.  I'm hoping to go to Ireland with in the next year.  I have some friends out there who I met up with in Sturgis this year.    :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:
