Aftermarket seat heater -- anyone with experience?
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:12:56 PM »

Anyone able to report on quality, ease of install or anything else of consequence on aftermarket seat heating pads?  I want to put one in the Road King's solo saddle before winter but have only ever used a couple of auto-only versions.  So hoping someone else's experience could be tapped here.

Had read that page.  It was an interesting option.  Even though the following was one of the more expensive options it got my attention too.  Liked the greater flexibility of the element thinking it might conform to the shape of a non-flat seat pad better.

So many here have had good luck with the Heat Demons grip heaters that I can't help but consider Symtec's seat elements too.  Still just hoping someone has some actual hands-on experience.

I probably will do it here Mike.  On the Corbin seats it is so easy to take the cover on and off it's hard for me to justify freight and time to send it out.  If it was something I might tear up I'd send it off in a heartbeat.  But these are pretty easy to mess with.

How about Heat Demon?

     Brad

Brad, our experience with both the company and its products is so good it's hard not to use them.  Especially since their price is so competitive.  My only concern is their products for seats are more inclined toward ATVs and snowmobiles.  Generally rectangular at least on their webpages.  The only dimensional spec I saw was 12"x12".  Not sure of the shape with that dimension working well on the solo saddle and its contours.  That's the biggest thing that's is pushing me toward that unfortunately more expensive option I'd listed the link for up above.  It would mold to contours and saddle shapes better; or at least I think it would.

You don't get an opinion on this subject.  Bionic asses don't get cold.  Anyway, I've got that one handlebar switch on the Road King that has nothing to do....

When I talked to the tech people of Symtec they told me no problem getting  a pad to fit right. But that was before they were marketing to the seat.

I have been considering adding the pads to the backrest. Just don't know how effective that would be going through a leather jacket.

Gawd I'm an idiot sometimes......

Killing some time in the shop this evening and think "Hey Don, go measure the seating area on that saddle so  you know for sure just how large of a heating element you can shop for."

So I do (measure it).  Then I'm thinking the leather hasn't been dressed in awhile.  So I grab the key (Corbin solo has a keylock) and unlock the seat.  Lift it up, start to lift more.... and.. well... the saddle is plugged in to the bike.

It's already a heated saddle.  It's already wired in through that last switch in the auxiliary switch bank on the handlebars I wanted to use for it.  It's all done.  Exactly as I wanted to do it.  Because... well... I'd already done it.

I'm an idiot.

But I know what happened.

Way back when the bike was getting finished up there was the first solo saddle.  Also a Corbin.  Looked good.  Totally sucked for a seating position.  It wasn't heated.  That's how the bike was when I "finished it."  Then later scored this seat on eBay and sold the original.  My brain just hadn't shifted gears to remembering the new saddle  .

Ok, so no new fall project to have done before winter.  Man I'm glad I didn't order an element...  ???

There's a difference between senile and being an idiot.  I'm an idiot.  Corbin says so....  :drink:
