Helmet painting
« on: November 30, 2009, 01:21:21 PM »

I just bought new helmets for me & the Mrs. for Christmas.  I was thinking of having them painted to match my silver & blue CUSE4.
I'm wondering if that's too 'gold wing' looking?  Anybody have experience with custom painting their helmet?

Cheers!

Had a good experience getting a helmet painted to match my bike. Thread here:

Yes, it is approaching Wing Nut status but I wanted to do it anyway. Don't wear it that much but get a lot of comments (95% positive) when I do. Did it for myself anyway so negative comments are ignored.

I'd call the helmet manufacturer to get input if the helmet is good for painting. Most helmet manufacturers would not even recommend stickers on helmets.

Ride safely,

Who cares, I'm looking at new helmets right now to have painted to match my new 2010 SEUC. I want the flames added too.  :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3:

Beware of heat. Make sure your painter understands that heat kills helmets. They will need to use paint that does not need to dry/set under a heat lamp or in an oven. Heat will deteriorate the EPS which is what protects your head.

Many painters think they can use the same technique on helmets that they use on sheet metal. Not so.

Experienced helmet painters are hard to find. Gunslingers in Golden, CO did many CVO paint sets and know how to paint helmets too. Very expensive, very good.
