NEW 103 VS OLD SE 103
« on: October 29, 2009, 12:42:13 PM »

Okay I have been reading a lot on here and have a few questions....

Old SE 103 is a 88" motor that has been bored and stroked?Am I correct
and the new 103 is a 96" motor with a big bore kit? and the SE 110 is a bored and stroked 96?

So that being the case why does everyone say that the old 103 is a better motor than the new 103
was the bottom end on the 88" motor that much better than the 96".

Did I make any one else confused :-\???

The new 96, 103 and 110 all use the same crank. Bore is different and the 110" requires larger case bore for the 4" barrels. The 88" uses a smaller crank, and the larger bore yields 95". A stroker crank was used to make it a 103" with the 95" barrels. The older cranks, while being a pressed design since '03, were better cranks than the these newer cranks. Also, SE had a choice of a Forged crank back then too, which was a much bettr crank than a stock one. You can't use the components of the older motor's components on the newer motors ('06 Dyna +up). ;)

AND, don't forget, different cams, heads, misc. pieces from the "old" SE103 to the "new" 103. Probably why the "old" SE103 will out-run the "new" 103 ......  IMHO
