Ultra Tour-Pak and CB/Radio on FLTRSEI2 advice needed!
« on: October 21, 2009, 08:33:30 PM »

Has anyone installed an Ultra Tour-Pak style on a detachable tour-pak rack with either the lighted spoiler or air-wing luggage rack with LED lights on a FLTRSEI2?

I am considering adding a detachable Ultra Tour-Pak set up for the ole lady on long trips.  Need some advice on what to expect as far as wiring connectivity.  Looking to add the J&M CB and rear speakers.  Have removed the CD disc changer.

Adding the CB, rear speakers and upgrading the front speakers, what's the best thing to do?  Replace the factory radio or just add J&M's speaker upgrades and CB unit.  Have not seen anything on upgrading to the current Harley radio system, you would think that they would have mad an easy plug and play adapter.........

Any advise on wiring tips, tricks, need to do's, avoids... would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It is not that hard. The wiring harness for the lights on the tour pack is located under the seat. You will be able to connect the running lights as well as the brake lights for the spoiler and stop light on the tour pack.

I added an Ultra tour-pak on mine. The pigtail that you need to connect to the wiring in the tour-pak is under the left side cover. It's just a short pigtail so you will have to etend it, or extend the one from your tour-pak. I extended the tour-pak wiring to leave the bike stock.

I am going to add a CB, but I haven't done that yet so I can"t help much.

HD's Boom Audio Music Intercom (BAMI) kit, p/n 77108-09, may be just the ticket for adding CB and passenger headset and controls to your '09 SERG.  My installation is described with pics in this thread:

The kit allows you to retain your model-specific/unique tank console since the rider headset connector isn't located in the tank console, and provides a passenger headset connector and controls (PTT/Vol.) without adding a tour pak.  I have fairing lowers and wired them as if they were rear speakers to the non-Ultra overlay harness that is needed for installing the Kit.  You could do the same with speakers mounted in tour pak pods and use quick disconnect conectors to permit easy removal of the tour pak.  The only passenger control not included in the BAMI kit that the Ultra has is the Mode Sel switch, and that could be added if necessary.
