I have an older Street Pilot Color Map that my wife uses.  I tried to load some maps from the 2610 software & they would not work because they where locked.

I can however, load a route from the 2610 to the older unit & have THAT work just fine.

I have a note in with the Garmin Tech regarding this...maybe I should look at any accompanying paperwork first...the difference is, the unlock code originally came from the unit...I tried that method with the replacement unit and it failed...there was no stored code.

Thanks for all the input, I bought a Garmin 2610, and ordered a bike mounting kit also. This will be a new experience, I usually just wander around until I get where I want to go!

That's usually half the fun  [smiley=7.gif]

The first HD Garmin I had kept turning off while riding, they replace the unit. Then the shoe it fit into became loose and the sound would just disappear. The unit tracks well enough, however it takes getting use to especially when "you" know where your going.

Tech Support is not great - one "gentleman" told me if it doesn't track correctly, just turn it off. [smiley=confused5.gif]

I have the HD quest and have had a lot of problems with the mount.  When it goes off, it is because the mount for the GPS is losing contact with the Shoe.  I fold a matchbook cover in half and wedge it into the space behind the GPS and shoe.  When the tooth broke on the shoe which goes into the mount on the fairing, I was perplexed.  So, I took two dell computer cord wraps ( the big rubber bands w/ the buttons) and screwed them to the inside of the fairing mount and tapped the buttons on the back side and screwed them on the shoe.  Now when I ride with it, the rubberbands hod the shoe to the mount and the matchbook keeps the contact between the shoe and GPS.  Sound like fun?

The idea is great, but the two part system and Harley vibration on cheap plastic doesn't work.  I told my dealer to put me in the upgrade list.

All that said, the gps works great.  I also have a 2620 Garmin and it works fine in my car and on my Heritage with the handle bar bracket from cyclegadgets.com

I also think it is complicated by the fact that the Cradle/Removeable mount is not just a passthrough for 12V.  There is circuitry in there, probably to prevent a ground loop or something.

Can't get the pics right now because the bike is in the shop for High Output kit and Rhinehart pipe repair.  In the picture, you can see two plastic posts that the cradle slides into.  Those broke on mine.  Also the tooth with the spring on the cradle broke.  matches are better off being pre-burnt, thus avoiding a fire hazard [smiley=7.gif]

I will send pics of what I did.  I am not satisfied with the unit.  I just needed to do something that would get me thru a 3200 mile trip.

Garmin needs to address this.  In fact I am considering driving up to Olathe, KS and show them the problem.  Figure they won't fix it if they don't get feed back.

Check out his thread for my Garmin 276C install.

As you will see I am pleased with my unit. It is not perfect but pretty close.
