Is Bigger Better (Fairing Speakers) ?
« on: December 04, 2009, 09:16:44 PM »

Been looking around at all of the different speakers available and want to hear what you guys think before I buy. Are the larger speakers that much better or should I stay with something like the Hawg Wired. I would also like to know what in fairing antenna for the radio and cb would be what do you like the best. help me spend some of my wife's money!

Think of my bike just like a street glide that is what it is now I have totally changed the bike
1 installed factory batwing fairing
2 installed factory radio HK 06 advanced audio
3 installed factory electra glide main wiring and interconnect wiring in fairing
4 installed electra glide gas tank
5 installed all of the handlebar controls (radio cruise ect)
This bike started life as a 04 Road King Custom and now after alot of $$$$$$ it is a 04 street glide after all they are the same bike.

OK--now we are on the same page. The Hawg Wired stuff is awesome!!! I can hear fine doing 90. I guess a little bigger is always better but how big are you going to get in a stock fairing?? 1/2" maybe--but you need the same quality and the Hawg wired is top notch. So a lower quality, slightly larger speaker will not really do much except enable you to hear the more distorted music a little louder.

That is kinda what I thought I was looking at putting in the direct connect stuff and a amp I also have a rear detach King Pack with 6.50 speakers in it but I dont run it all of the time that is why I was wanting a good quality sounding speaker up front any thoughts on the antenna

Another memeber on this forum tried a few and found this one to be the best. I bought it, but have not installed it yet.

I just put in the J&M 7.25 speakers withgrill ount tweeter and mid.  They blow me away.  The new rear 51/2's also with grill are awesome.  Dr V-twin in CA sells the package (front and rear) for 349 free shippin'  ther's a huge thread about them including a studio guy that did some pretty extensive testing on hdforums...best upgrade yet!

Surprising...DickW tried it and told me it worked very well....may not be as great as the whip but I'm gonna give it a shot.

Yep, put this on my scoot after trying the J&M, works much better. I am happy with it.

I am a believer that nothing works as well as the whip, but this is the the one that worked for me.

As far as the speaker question, I think it's all about the quality of the system, and I found that HOG WIRED is top notch. Call Jim (hd-dude) he will hook you up, or answer any questions you have.
