I've got the D407 rear on my 2010 SEUC, got a little over 11K miles on it. Seems to be cupped pretty bad so riding to the dealer this afternoon to have a checked out. They said it was cupped due to too much rear brake being applied - does this sound right? Front tire still looks and rides like new.
Just took the bike in for service after my westward-ho trip. Everything checked out decent - they said the front brake rotor was warped and will replace under warranty.

Unless you've been locking the brakes and flat spotting the tire, no, that does not sound right. But I have to give them credit for coming up with some new BS instead of just using the same BS the other dealerships use. There are other threads on the site that detail some of what the various dealers have told others with the same problem.
What it all boils down to is that Harley and Dunflop have had major issues with the D407 tires, and they would rather screw over the customers than step up and take care of the problems. After playing the same games with folks on the front tires, they ultimately had no choice but to fix the front tire problems due to the number of people affected and the obvious safety and legal implications. For some reason they haven't stepped up in the same way on the rear tires, even though it is a similar issue. Perhaps that is because people don't notice the cupping on the rear until they have a lot of miles, and by that time most of the tread is gone anyway.
I'd still contact H-D and file a complaint. Be prepared with all pertinent information, like the actual tread depth measurement, and make a reasonable request, not an ultimatum. If you've already used 60% of the tread, for instance, a reasonable request would be that they pick up 40% of the replacement cost. I would guess, however, just based on posts from other folks, that at 11,000 miles you've probably used up closer to 75-80% of the tread, and H-D will tell you it's time to buy a new tire anyway. But there is no harm in asking, and no harm in letting them know how you feel about the poor quality tire they put on your CVO.
