Thunder Max Tuners - 2010 CVO Streetglide
« on: February 13, 2010, 05:15:22 AM »

Hi,

Does any one have any Info on the Thundermax Race Tuners. I will be receiving my new 2010 Street Glide in a couple of weeks and want to start mods ASAP. I have already looked at exhausts I think I will go for Vance & Hines True Duals with High Output slip ons that fit the drop bags. Just need some Info on which tuner to use ?? Want the best bang and performance for my money !! :-\

I'll make that part easy to decide.  Zippers does not make a tuner for you're bike.  For the last two years, they have been saying "Just a couple more weeks" or "We're in the final stage of developement".   Besides...the Thundermax eliminates your stock "knock sensors"

Forget ThunderMax, even if they do eventually figure out the electronic throttle control models.  Zipper's doesn't exactly instill confidence, especially if you ever have reason to contact them for support.  A much better choice would be the TTS MasterTune, details of which you can find by searching on this site.

If you are looking for a device that someone else will use to dyno tune your bike, the best advice is to discuss the choice of device with the person you plan to pay to use it.  If you're looking for a device that is supposedly automatic, such as the Auto Tune ThunderMax, be advised that the so-called auto tune devices still require a base map that is tuned to your particular build.

That doesn't help with africa's primary issue with the Thundermax......they don't offer one for his bike.  At least not yet.

Did not know that, my bike has a throttle cable, so i guess he can mark Thundermax off the list, and look for something else. :-*

I am working with the Annapolis HD dealer and there top tech (Mike). I purchased my FLSTSE 2010 at this store, and after checking around, found that Mike is very well regarded. He has recommended the TMAX w/ autotune and wide band sensors, to go along with my Rush 1.75 slip-ons. Mike has installed over 40 of these tuners and has one for his personal bike. So does my salesman. So far, they are all very delighted with the product and support. (For my support, I go direct the Mike)

I'm looking into a possible problem noted by Mr Wizard on another thread, regarding the digital speedo on the 2010 CVO, and some incapability issues with the various tuners on the market. I'll check with TMAX and report back.

Still diggin out from the 2010 Storm of the Century..... >:(

One additional comment. The guy (Mike) at Annapolis HD that is installing my TMAX is has been involved with a lot of testing on the (fly-by-wire) mod for TMax, and he is very pleased with the product. Also talked to Tom Dickens at TMax this morning, great guy and very helpful. You might want to give these guys a call and go over you concerns. I get the impression, that the TMax mod you need may be available.

Just to be clear. Graybeard is speaking of the Softail CVO ConV which has the factory digital speedo and a cable throttle. Hopefully everything will be OK.

You know... what about those darn wideband sensors...swore I heard there was something wrong with the concept some place, not sure where though. Thundermax sounds great none the less. I had one on order for three years I think...Kind of lost track of time. A lot of people like this for none wired throttles. :2vrolijk_21:
