110 Head gasket assistance
« on: January 18, 2010, 07:05:34 PM »

Hi everybody,  I was changing my rear tire today and found the common rear Head gasket leaking as everyone else has. I just did the 10,000 mile service in September and it was fine, It is a 2008 CVO, stock 255 cams.

What is the best fix?  I have been reading Harley has updated or improved their gaskets, is this the best option?  Or I have always had good luck with Comet gaskets.

What are your recommendations.  Thanx for your assistance.

They seam to have them fixed if replaced properly. Checking cly's with tq plates, looking for liner movment in cly's,have valves checked. Most cly's are out of round and tapered.

I used Cometic MLS head gaskets with success (I also installed Axtell cylinders, however...).   :2vrolijk_21:

But the reports of the latest MOCO head gaskets have been good also...

The Factory was up to the 4th revision headgasket when I was having trouble with my 2007 110B engine.

They did the recall 6 times before they replaced the engine with a 2009 110B engine.

I would make sure the gasket set is the latest revision.

If yours is an'08, you have time to get it done under warranty.  If your bike was built after May 18 (plus or minus a day or so), you already have the new head gasket design.  My '08 CUSE was built May 26 and I now have 27,000+ miles and never had a leak.

Thanx for all the information,  Just got off the phone with my Dealer,  I do have a Pre May motor,  they just told me that they talked to the MoCo and they are going to replace the head gaskets to a new fiber type gasket.  They will not let me do this and have to take the bike in.  I asked about the cylinder liner slipping and they did not say much.  I guess will find out when they get it tore down.  I did ask if this was a new type of gasket and they said yes.  I guess beings it is winter and am down anyway I might as well let them take care of it on their dime.  If it happens again then I guess I will look at the AXTELL cylinders.  Thanx for the help!
