Exhaust for 103 Stage IV exhaust
« on: February 28, 2010, 07:34:04 PM »

Looking to walk in with a new exhaust when I pick up a new Fat Boy Lo and need some help.  I'm having the Stage IV kit installed and along with that comes the SE Heavy Breather intake.  Those two will be the only mods that will be done to the bike when I get it so I want to gain some knowledge before asking or receiving recommendations from the dealer.  If it matters when power/expectations I'm looking for, I'd rather have power on the lower RPM's with the setup I'm going to have. The stage IV kit is on the SE catalog if you need to reference.
Thanks

your not gonna have low end power with that set up... not with those 260 cams... have them install the 259 cams instead, u will be much happier... exhaust is up to u, what do u like? 2-1 will give best low and midrange, 2-2 more top end, but good slip on mufflers on the stock head pipes will be good also...

I'll ask about the cams but I've received mixed feedback about that. I know I'm not going to have the low end power with the kit but maybe a 2 into 1 exhaust can help a little. I like the looks of 2 into 2 but I don't need the power in the high band. Slip ons would only work if I could get the performance out of them so it doesn't seem like I'm going that route. Thanks for the advice

a good set of slip on's, like cycle shacks or pythons, will work very well giving u good power and sound... that stage 4 kit won't give u the low end ur gonna want on a heavy bike like that fatboy... the heads r way to big, as well as the cams... that kit would work better on a 117" motor... u'd be better off with the MCR heads, 10.5 pistons and the 259 cam...

First, I did check out the protwin website, liking the 103" Sports Performance Package.  I do worry about having to split the cases with that power and getting really deep.  Which I worry because I don't have any experience in building up motors. :nixweiss: And those kits are just for delivery right? Then I need them installed?  I see dollar signs
Let me know what you think.
I've looked at the screaming eagle kits and decided on the IV because I want numbers close to 100/100.  I would like the numbers earlier on the throttle rather than later on my bike.  Also, you said that the Fat Boy was too heavy for this kit, but it's only about 60 pounds more that most Dyna's so that makes me wonder what kit the stage IV was made for.  The 113 kit they has even different parts so why do you say the stage IV is more suitable for a 117?  And I think I'm leaning towards the Bassani 2 into 1 exhaust.

the HQ kits don't require any case splitting on the 103/107 kits... straight bolt on like the HD stuff... my friend has the HQ kit with the 600 cams, and his makes 106/116, i'm sure the ST kit with the 575 cams will make 100/110 no problem, as long as its tuned correctly... i don't know what HD was thinking when they made that kit... the heads r way to big for a small engine like a 103", thats y they have no low end, and work better with smaller cams... give kevin a call or email and tell him what your looking for and want...
