883 to 1200 conversion
« on: November 07, 2009, 04:25:49 PM »

OK this is a non CVO topic, but i need help.

My wife has an 883L. I have oredered a Lehman trike conversion for it. Before it goes in for the conversion i want to convert it to a 1200.

My question (and it may be silly) for anyone who knows for sure... on the SE conversion kit HD part #29784-07... the book says "Make your Iron 883 Roar" in one breathe and then later in the description says "Kit includes black highlighted cylinders and cylinder heads"

What do the barrels look like?? The Iron 883 is all black and the ad makes reference to it... but then it says the parts are black highlited which in my mind means black with milled cooling fin edges. The picture is of no help and my local dealer is not sure.

Here bike has a lot of Chrome on it and so the black highlighted barrels and heads would be fine... but i can't put all black on it.

Anyone?????

I answered my own question by ordering the kit. I was told it was probably black with finished edges on the cooling fins and it is. My wife has a grey enging but i've added a bunch of engine chrome so it will look mint... will post pics when its done if anyone cares.

As for the trike conversion, i settled on the Lehman Raider Kit. If Lehman is good enough for the MoCo its good enough for me. Seriously, i compared the body kits and Lehmans are perfect. No fiber strands, no patching, smooth on the inside as it is on the outside. They are vaccum form fiberglass as opposed to hand laid glass... machines handle this better i guess.

as for the swing arm... i saw 3 different MFG's swing arms and without slamming the others... let me say the Lehman one was WAY WAY better engineered. My wife is on this thing and i want it the thing tracking straight.

The kit will be here this month and hopefully before new year the conversion complete. Any questions please ask...again will post pics when available

Not sure what year Sporty it is, but you may want to consider mods to the carb when you go to 1200. Here is an article on re-jetting, and yost power tube.

Very nice!  It looks like you'll be ready for Port Dover in August with it.
