Dumb Saddlebag question
« on: February 16, 2010, 05:54:46 PM »

well, not so dumb since the SERG isn't in my garage yet.........wondering if the saddlebag extensions are cosmetic only, or is it functional- meaning do you get extra storage inside of the bags?

Thanks

Both... you can get extensions and paint to match

Or you can buy bags that are longer or wider or both.  Depends on how deep your pockets are... and in your case, how strong the Canadian $ is against the American Peso... or is that Yuan (Chinese Dollar)?  (Dons Fireproof Suit)

On the 09s they are cosmetic. No extra storage in them.

I believe that the 2010 bags found on the SESG have the extra room.

It will be an 09...commited to buy it from a guy up north..up near the Ontario/Manitoba border...he's willing to hold it for me until riding season , which, up there is likely late April/early May, so that I can pick it up and ride it back. Or, I got a quote to have it shipped for $630 including tax, so I'm debating about maybe going that route, and getting it in March or April.

This is the case on my S/T 09 SERG. No extra storage... :(

ok, thanks guys- stupid review I just read said the extentions give 27% more storage.

Unfortunately, this proves once again that you can't believe everything you read. Where did you find the review? Online? In print? Some sources (i.e., writers) are more reliable than others...

I believe that the 2010 bags found on the SESG have the extra room.

Really!?!? Huh! That's news to me. I was pretty sure that Harley didn't have true extended bag, only the cosmetic extensions. Hmmmm... Maybe I learned something today. ;)

If you live some place where it's gonna be warm enough to ride before late April/early May, then have it shipped... and the sooner, the better. You never know when you might have an unseasonably warm day well before late April... know what I mean? It only takes a couple of those to make the $630 worth it.... at least, that's the way I look at it.

It was an on-line article...one of the better write ups actually- I figure the author got confused with the fact that the new 2009 frame allows for more weight carrying capacity.

I hear ya RickC- I bought my present bike (2004 Yamaha Warrior) on April 10, 2004, and I find that is about the date I pull it out of storage every year- even if the weather gets warm enough just before that, I like to wait for the rain to wash away all the last bits of road salt from the winter.

2009 SERG the extensions are cosmetic only.

I am anxious to see how the extended bags on the 2010 SESG hold up wit regard to carrying 27% more weight. My personal opinion is that more material needs to be added to the sidewall of the saddlebag where it clips to the rail. I have repainted hundreds of pre 2010 non extended hardbags due to the spider cracks. Again, just my opinion.

Have you looked up what a flight to Kenora will cost you yet :nixweiss: it might be cheeper just to ship it now and that will give you time to tinker before the spring rain :nixweiss:

Just sayin

Flight to Winnipeg is only $117 from Hamilton, but add that up with 2 nights of hotels, food, gas, plus the fact the GF wants to come (so it might take an extra day), it doesn't work out much cheaper, if at all. Yes, if I had the week off, I would love to take our time, and go through Duluth, Milwaukee, then take the ferry across to Michigan, then home....oh well, we'll see what happens.
