i get them from lots of banks i dont do business with, they hope to catch people off guard and get them to click on it and try and login to a fake site. this allows them to collect usernames and passwords, and if they ask for extra verification people may give them things like addresses D.O.B. or S.S.N. info. simple basic identity theft 101 stuff.if only 1 of 1000 people fall for it they can get lots of money from the millions of theses they send out you should always verify where an email is from before clicking on links

Add to that if you receive an email from someone you know and it only contains a link or contents that seem really off the wall don't click on it either. There are some virus' running around that will appear as someone you know has sent it w/a link that once you click on it you could infect your computer.

Rule #1 in phishing and scams: Never ever open a link form an email. Always go to your browser and go to your normal website and enter your account. For instance, (if you did have BofA account) go to the BofA site and log onto your account that way. The links they provide off emails are rigged to go to a false site where the capture your login details as you type/enter them. My kids and wife follow this practice religiously and never trust an email link. Fake PayPal is really bad for this. In fact, I've dealt with a significant number of financial institutions in my life (like most of you) and none have ever used email to contact me if there is a problem - they either call or send me a letter via snail mail.

I get that crap all the time, I don't even open it I delete it.  No bank will contact you in that manner, these are the scamers in an office usually in Africa trying to get your information so they can screw you.

Got a call tonight from Omaha Nebraska, guy stated he wanted to know how my last transaction was at our local bank (which I bank at) mentioned the date, told him wasn't there that day as a matter of fact I never go to that Branch he said OK and hung up.  Never got to here the scam line, pissed me off.
