Air Temp Sensor
« on: January 26, 2006, 03:06:29 PM »

Could someone explain in better detail the advantages of moving the Air Temp Sensor from the TB to the A/C Backing Plate?  This was discussed in Donnie Petersons article on Twin Cam EFI in this months AIM.
His theory and rationale seem to make sense:  'As the engine gets hotter and begins to lean out the fuel mixture, the ATS gets hotter.  Thus leaning out the mix even more.'
Does this really happen? Would the Twin Cam run cooler if the sensor was installed in the backing plate and receiving air straight from the aircleaner?

I beleive the point he made is that warmer air temp allows for running a leaner AF mixture.

I've never seen any real data on Mr. Peterson's theory, but it does make sense when you think about it.
