Felt 'The Heat' Today
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:33:38 PM »

Temps were in the upper 80's today...rode the bike to work...and I believe my right calf got cooked somewhere between well done and burnt! I'm amazed at the heat from this bike!!!  :'( I said I wouldn't change the exhaust...but this bike is almost too uncomfortable to ride. I tried the Nightrider Fl-xied's but had some performance problems. Soooo, what do you folks recommend for a fairly quiet exhaust/EFI upgrade that would cool this engine down?

Get the cat out fist off. Then richen up the fuel. Mine runs perfect and is not much hotter than my Heritage. Love it now.

Yes, get rid of the cat.  Fullsac makes a ceramic coated X-pipe that should not only improve power but also reduce heat.  Stage I AC and the tough question is the ECM need.  If you nchange the header pipe and Stage I you will have to purchase a fuel management system:

1.   I like the PC V with autotune set at 13.8 AFR.  Keeps the bike cool in south Texas.  At 14.5 with the NB sensors it is blistering hot.

2.   Mastertune with TTS is probably the most popular for CVO owners (HD's SSERT) is similar.   That said Steve at Fullsac does a great job matching your setup to the TTS.

3. HD's SSERT Requres dyno'ing the bike which some say you should do anyway.

4.  TMAT no knowledge of the newest version.

Fuel Moto has a carbon fiber set of mufflers that should also, be cool.  And looks good.

I like the AFR at 13.8 versus 14.4.. Much cooler.

Got baffles from Fulsac. Also bought the Mastertune from Fulsac as well. Steve fixed me up with a map that I dumped in and bike runs perfect.

 :drink: :drink:

The carbon fiber mufflers from Fule Moto are very good looking and run exceptionally cool.  Watch the video.

Add the Fullsac ceramic coated X-pipe and the heat will be gone.

And run great.

TC 96 header (ceramic coated if you can), PCV with or without autotune, keep with standard mufflers or go the fulsac route.

Another vote for the Fullsac head pipe, Fullsac baffles if you don't want too loud and a TTS Mastertune with Steve's map. I went with V&H slip-ons that are a bit louder. Heat is much better.

My $ .02... I fought this problem when I bought my bike in August 09. The heat & Humidity in South La. was horrible, I feel your pain. After 7 months of research my final decision was to go with a FuelMoto Stainless Steel X-Pipe, Piece Milled AC (Black Base, Zippers 2 5/8" deep element and Jokers Mfg Louvered Cover), SERT & Klockworks SS Mufflers.

Bike has a suttle idle with a low runmble but cracks with the twist of the wrist. Cruising speed between 2500 - 3000 rpms is a dull humm. Very satisfied with the setup, if interested with it I can post the video.

;D ;D Makes me grin like a little kid every time I start it. Good luck with the search, cause you'll get alot of good advise on this site.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will give Fullsac a call. They seem to be a very popular choice on this website.

Just a due diligence item, I would call Fuel Moto and talk to them also.  Their Carbon Fiber mufflers look awesome.  They also have the stainless steel X-pipe and TTS and Stage I AC.

Can't go wrong either way.

Decided on Fullsac. Enjoyed talking to Steve. Going with the X pipe, 1.75" baffles and Arlen Ness 'Big Sucker'.  ;D

Based on your recommendation I did check out Fuel Moto's website. They have some good options. I like the tuneable quiet muffler they offer. I just felt Fullsac offered a better package. Thanks for the tip. It did force me to do a bit more research.
