Saddle Bag Rails for CVO
« on: April 01, 2010, 05:23:37 PM »

I like the saddle bag rails, as on a NON Limited or CVO Ultra.  OK, so our bikes have the color matched fillers in back.  Has anyone modified them to accept the rails???  Just removed them??  Some of ya think maybe I'm nuts.  My wife does.  I also want to outfit my front fender like a "standard" Ultra, but without the bumper.      Leaving the rear fender as is.

I put the lower "nostalgia" saddlebag bars and just removed the filler strips and replaced them with slotted chrome filler strips. I imagine you could slot the painted ones but may have some paint chipping issues or you could paint the chrome ones.
Here is a shot of the chrome slotted filler strips on my 2006 FLHTCUSE.

Those look sharp! Nicer than the double/standard rails!!   How tight is the clearance to lean the bag out to disconnect the power lines from the spoilers and locks?

It's not too bad to lean out to disconnect. Just remember to put a rag over the bars before tilting the bag. I have very large hands and can reach in there fine. I don't have saddlebag electric locks but do have two connectors -one for spoiler lights and another for side marker lights.

Those Chrome fillers appear to be the way to go if installing the rails! They do look good IMHO.

The big issue with the saddle bag rails, is that it breaks up the flow of the paint jobs on the CVO scoots, just my opinion!

I agree.  Put them on my '06 melon but not on my '07 jester.   :2vrolijk_21:

I agree about the paint. I also like the idea of protecting the bags. I wonder if one of the more talented members could design a bar that landed at the bottom of the bags and only stuck out about an inch from the side. Protection and no disturbance of the paint flow.
